Humanity...it still lies in the corner of heart...
Today when i left the hostel to place nearby , I had not realised that i would return back with a more positive vibe than which i had left.
It was about 5:00 pm in the evening and the clouds were closing in.
I had not barely crossed the hostel gate when the watchman asked me.."Mazha peyura maari irukkuma..koda eduthukktiya papa??? " . I just acknowledged it and moved on.
I proceeded a few yards more, when a old auto-rickshaw driver came towards me with his auto and asked "en ma thaniya nadanthu pora?? enga ponumnu solluma na erakkividren...paaru vaanam iruttuthu..sali pidichirum aprm...". I just shaked a no and proceeded on faster.
I reached the main road and stood there when i noticed two girls of my age stood hand in hands. One of them looked at me , smiling and said "Neengalum vareengala cross panna?? " I smiled at them and put in my hands with them. When we reached the other end, i murmured them a thank you and they just said, "hey idha paarda..idhukulam thanks aama..haha bye". I just proceeded in the auto.
When i had reached the next signal, I had to get down. I had gone into a bakery and stood in the queue to reach the counter. The old grandpa who had been looking at me from the counter called me, towards him. When i reached the counter , he called the shop boy and said "Indha papa ku enna venumnu ketu seekiram anupunga pa...paavam thaniya nikkura...evlodhooram thiruppi poganumo...mazha vera peyura maari iruku..." I just smiled at my luck and got my need and came back.
When i had to return , i waited for share-autos. But to my luck, none came. The ones that came were full. A few minutes after which i had begun to get irritated, a boy who had come in the auto stopped it , looking at me and said that driver..."Inga irundhu konja dhooram dhan ...na nadanthukren na...mazha vera peyura mari iruku..you get in the auto..." I was shocked. Yet , i thanked him and got into the auto.
In the auto, I overheard the conversation between a father (who was the auto-driver) and a daughter. The daughter had been doing her pg in wwc, chennai. She was describing a small accident that had taken place in the morning, to her father. The father who had been listening to what she said, asked her what did she do then. She said "I couldn't do anything as i was standing a little away dad..."
Her father said "What if it had happened to you and none came to help you?? " She replied that someine passing-by would have surely helped her then. Her Father said " You've studied this much , not only because of my hard work, but also due to the help offered by various people at various stages of life...The education that you have today will be of use, only when you have that simple sense of helping people during their need..Think wiser and act better at other circumstances..." saying so he dropped the girl nearby their home and proceeded to drop me at my location. By this time , it was only me and the auto-driver in the auto. He asked me if i was studying and my occupation. I replied back and then he said, "these days people name it over-freedom if we never mind the children and name it dominant if we restrict them. Seeing that you are from hostel , try to get in sooner to the hostel dear..as the place is unsafe around this time. This time, this moment i know and feel assured that i have dropped my daughter at home. Give that feel of assurance and happiness to your parents too ,child. " I said "Sure, uncle" and proceed on.
The journey had been so small , yet my mind had gathered so much , that it was stronger and more positive than ever. When i walked back towards the hostel , i was smiling without my consciousness.
I smiled at the watchman who stood there looking at my approach. The watchman was not my friend, i had barely known him in the past three years where i ve resided. Though they did not know me, they offered a few words of concern.
The old auto-rickshaw driver was not someone whom i meet regularly, yet he approached me when there had been so many customers waiting in the mains. It was only because , i walked alone and he felt to guard, atleast till the place i had to go.
The girls who helped me cross the road, were not my friends. Yet they just passed on to help me, only because they saw one more of them in me.
The old grand pa , was not my own grandpa. Yet, he had the concern for me to reach home sooner as it might rain.
The boy who got down from the share-auto to let me in, was not my brother or my boyfriend. Yet, He was concerned for my safety.
The auto driver had barely known me, yet my father . Yet he shared the concern of being a parent.
These people had not been my family. They were not my friends or neighbours. Yet, they helped me. Was it only because i was a Girl ? Was it because i walked alone ? Was it because they cared? What kept these people moving? Did they gain anything by doing these? Was it money? Was it recognition?
I smiled when i realised the answer .
It was HUMANITY.
It was LOVE all over.
It was not for money or recognition , but for the THANKS and the SMILE.
I whispered a "Thank you" to the almighty and lied down on my cozy bed with a smile on my face.
Humanity can never be killed. It lies in the corner of your heart , its only your duty to see through it.
